Double Potholders

Today's project was to make double potholders!  These work really well to keep your wrists protected from burns as you take pans out of the oven.

Supplies:
  • 3/4 yd fabric
  • 1 yd Insul~Bright
  • 1 package of 3 yd. Extra Wide Double Fold Bias Tape
  • Thread
*INSUL~BRIGHT NOTE: The shinier metal looking side of Insul~Bright should always face the hot or cold item allowing it to relfect the energy back to its source.

Directions:
1. Cut out pattern
     a. From Insul~Bright:
         i.  One 7" x 30" piece.  Round both ends using a plate as a guidline.

ii. Two 7" x 7" pieces.  Round one end of each piece.
     b. From Fabric:
         i.  Two 7" x 30" pieces.  Round both end.
ii. Four 7" x 7" pieces.  Round one end of each piece.
     c. From Bias Tape:
         i. Cut two 7.5" pieces.

2. Layer two of the 7x7 pieces by matching up the rounded edges and placing wrong sides together.
Place a piece of Insul~Bright in between the two fabric pieces.
Place the bias tape along the straight edge of the fabric so that there is bias tape on the outside of each side.
   Pin in place.
Sew on the 7.5" piece of bias tape you cut earlier.
Trim the extra bias tape off each end.
Repeat this process with the other 7x7 pieces.

3. Layer your 7 x 30 pieces the same way you did with the 7 x 7.
Do not add the bias tape yet.

4. Place a 7x7 piece at each end of the 7x30 piece, matching the rounded edges.

5. Pin bias tape around the outside of the entire potholder.  Sew on.

6. Flip your project over and make sure that your stitches caught the bias tape on the back side.  If not, restitch those areas.

Approx Cost: $15
